Receptivity; How to eat like a Goddess

The essence of divine feminine nature is receptivity. Being open to receive, gracefully and with love, without apology or guilt. Yet, amidst the frenzy of modern day thinking and living, we simply don’t Be still long enough, to allow ourSelf to Be open and receive.
x
To compound this, we eat and breathe an endemic diet mentality that is rooted in restriction and rationing, shrouded in fear and conjuring all sorts of negative thought patterns and emotions around food.  The reality that we appear to be living is the complete opposite to our divine feminine nature. We’re closed. Tightly bound. Giving, even when there’s no more to give. Literally starving ourSelf of nourishment.
x
I’ve had clients who eat a wonderfully rich, nutritious diet, yet their body remains starved of the nourishment simply because they’re not in the receptive mode. The body simply can’t access it because they’re ‘closed’. No wonder so often we feel starved and just want to keep on eating…

You see, to receive we have to be open, and to be open we have to Be in a state of relaxation, ease, security and safety. Do you feel like this? Or do you feel stressed, anxious and anything but secure, whether in your body, mind or life itself?

The spleen is the organ of receptivity, it’s our ‘inner mother’ receiving and utilising nourishment through food, and also emotions. Too often we don’t allow ourSelf to receive the nourishment physically through food, and neither do we allow ourSelf to receive emotional nourishment through loving family, friends and partnerships.

We take ourSelf everywhere with us, even to the dinner table, how you operate in your life is how you’ll ‘operate’ whilst eating. In fact, your relationship with food and how you eat is a mirror for your relationship with your body and yourSelf and how you feel in life. All food for thought.

But coming back to receptivity and nurturing a state that leaves us nourished rather than starved, even if we’ve eaten amazing food. This state is essential for your wellBeing, healing any state of dis-ease that you may be experiencing, and coming back into balance.  As inspired by the energy of Goddess Hathor, above.

Indeed, if this state isn’t nurtured, the goodness simply cannot be utilised for our ‘good’. Learning to receive, or rather, re-membering our True nature IS the medicine.

I’ve been working with this myself for the past few months, becoming more conscious of my state and whether I’m in the receiving mode of not. When I am, I feel more energised and lighter, supported and nourished. When I’m not, well, I’m not going to give that anymore air time. So, here’s what I’ve found to be helpful for opening up to Receive.

  1. Relax. Sounds easy, yet we know it feels like a challenge sometimes. But, our breath tells our brain under which state, stress or peace, to operate. Simply put. 5 minutes of calm, rhythmic breathing before each meal will do wonders for relaxing your body so it can move into receiving mode.
  2. Bless your food. Acknowledge the goodness and nourishment that’s in front of you on your plate. See it. Familiarise yourSelf with it. Energy follows thought. You’re literally telling your body that nourishment is here and priming it to receive. Feel appreciation for this food and bless it with your loving awareness.
  3. Intention. Simply ask your body to assimilate this food with ease, feeling free to receive nourishment. Communication between your body and food is a two-way street, you can greatly influence the outcome of this ‘transfer of information’ by setting powerful intention to be nourished by this food.
  4. Focus. To maintain a relaxed state of openness, eat slowly, breathe calmly and don’t multitask. If your mind is busy reading an email or scrolling Instagram, your system is trying to digest and receive information as well as food. This will overload your body and your system crashes, literally. Focus ‘souly’ on your food, tasting it, enjoying it, chewing it really well and tapping into the pleasure of eating. Pleasure is divine, don’t be afraid of it, embrace it.
